Shelburne Farms Vermont Elopement, Rachel + Mike
“You’re the best! And I will continue to love you as you deserve, with devotion, respect, and the honor of a klingon warrior.”
The internet may forever know us as that couple that got each other the same gift on their wedding day, but believe it or not there was an actual wedding that took place. That's right, I'm finally sharing MY wedding film!
It's going to sound strange especially after so many of you have shared your beautiful engagement stories, but we don't have one. It was more of a series of events that lead us to getting married. First, Erika Aileen Photography was in Boston for a wedding and was looking for models to do some couples portraits. This prompted us to go shopping where I found my wedding dress and Mike found the perfect suit. We had a blast shooting with her and then had these amazing outfits chilling in our closets.
Then the amazing Katie Jean Photography posted that she was looking to shoot an elopement sometime that summer. I had worked with Katie previously, and LOVED LOVED LOVED her photos and working with her. I showed the post to Mike and we both were like, heck yes! So that's how we got engaged?
Having some sheep in our portraits was my priority, and after some intense googling I discovered the gorgeous Shelburne Farms. If you want a variety of options in New England that are all equally beautiful this is your place. Right on Lake Champlain, tons of open fields, walking trails, and a somewhat gothic looking barn.
We got ready in the same room, gasp! And Finishing Touch did my hair in a beautiful braided half-pony.
Having our precious dog Rosie captured with us was super important, but the farm does not allow dogs on the property AND it is a 3.5 hours from Boston! That is where Second Chance Dog Walking and Sitting came to the rescue. Jill the owner, drove our Rosie up to the dog park outside the grounds of the farm where we had a first look with her. Yes, we had a first look with our dog.
After the first look with Rosie we had the now internet famous gift exchange, that almost didn't happen on camera! We roamed around doing portraits for a couple more hours and then moved to our ceremony spot where Stephen Laurie officiated for us. He did a fantastic job performing a handfasting and reading some personal statements from our families.
You all know I'm obsessed with sunset portraits, so naturally I flipped out as we sped off to the lake for our final glimpse of a perfectly pink sky.
Now you're wondering who filmed MY wedding?! Well, a lot of you probably recognize Amanda McGrady from your weddings as my second shooter. She took over as lead for a day, and my newest camera person Karen Garcia took over as second. Then I had the torturous task of editing everything myself. So here we are several months later.
In case you missed it, here is that time we accidentally bought each other the same Night Sky gift.
But actually, this is not the first time an Olive Ewe couple got each other a same gift! Check out the couple’s cute exchange here.
